Candler Wilson of Beacon Builders Inc. was recently installed as the 60th President of the Home Builders Association of Greater Savannah (HBA). Wilson was installed by his father, James C. Wilson, Jr., (26th President), and by his brother, James Corde Wilson, III (50th President). The ceremony took place at the Savannah Marriott with over 360 members, family and friends. As the HBA also celebrated its 60th Year Anniversary, in attendance were 26 of the Associations Past Presidents.

Born and raised in Savannah, Wilson is a second generation builder and is the son of Jim and Barbie Wilson. He attended Savannah Country Day School and the University of Georgia where he earned his degree in Economics. Upon graduation in 2001, he and his older brother and now business partner, Corde Wilson, formed Beacon Builders, Inc.

Candler joined the HBA in 2001, became a Board Member in 2003 and was nominated to serve as an Officer in 2012. He has served as the Association’s Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and will serve as President for 2016. He received a Presidential Award in 2007, recognized as the Sales & Marketing Member of The Year in 2014, and most recently received a Presidential Award, as well as, being named the Builder Member of the Year for 2015.

Wilson has been married to the former Kathleen Watters of Duluth, GA for 9 years and they have been blessed with three children, a daughter age 7, and twin boys age 5.

Other Officers installed at the annual event were Mark Bouy of Bouy Brothers Builders as Vice President; Jeff Schofield of Green Choice Custom Homes as Treasurer, Fred Bricketto of Mungo Homes as Secretary; Tracey Burdette of Fidelity Bank Mortgage as Associate Vice President and David Hagan of K. Hovnanian Homes as Chairman of the Sales & Marketing Council.

Board Members for the Greater Savannah HBA and Sales & Marketing Council were also installed at the event.

Presidential Awards were presented to Candler Wilson, Jeff Schofield, Joe Marshall & Mark Bouy. Byron Loomis of Yates Astro was recognized as the Sales & Marketing Member of the Year and Janet Atwood Melton was awarded the Woody Woodward

Memorial Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions by an Associate member.

Lamar Smith of Lamar Smith Signature Homes was presented with the coveted Hall of Fame Award by long time member and Hall of Famer, Jerry Konter. In 1994 Smith started his career as a developer of vibrant communities in the Greater Savannah area. In 2008 he became a residential home builder at which time he formed Lamar Smith Signature Homes. In 2014, his company was awarded with the AVID Diamond Award, presented to one builder in the nation with the highest customer satisfaction rating. Currently, Lamar Smith Homes is the third largest Builder by revenue in Greater Savannah area and also currently builds in communities in Brunswick, Bluffton and St. Mary’s.

Lamar has served in every leadership role within the HBA of Greater Savannah including President in 2003. He has been awarded the Builder Member of the Year Award, served on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and received countless Summit Awards including Community of the Year. Lamar will serve as President of the Home Builders Association of Georgia in 2017. Personally, Lamar serves on the Corporate Board of the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, and is also involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Student Leadership University. He also serves as a deacon at Reidsville Baptist Church.
