The Lake Oconee Area Builders Association held their 5th Annual Lake Vegas event. Hosting an estimated 200 guests this year, LOABA raised over $9,075 which will go back to their local community in the form of scholarships for students attending technical school and/or college. Tim Askew, Lake Vegas Event Chairman, stated this was the largest attendance for the event during its five year run, which in turn assisted the organization to raise more funds than in previous years. Proudly recognizing this year’s event as a huge success, he noted that the sponsorships were sold out within the first few days of announcing the scheduled event and credited the loyal members, affiliates and area business sponsors for much of the success of the Lake Vegas Event.
This was Tim’s 3rd consecutive year for chairing the Lake Vegas Event. The Lake Vegas Event is the largest fundraiser for the Fran Faxon Scholarship Foundation. Since 2011, LOABA has raised over $22,000 for The Fran Faxon Scholarship Fund and awarded 34 scholarships to date. Visit LOBALive.comfor eligibility.
Our members, through their charitable contributions, made a huge impact again this Christmas by helping local DFCS kids through the Christmas Outreach Program. LOABA has been involved with this local organization since 2008, averaging assistance to more than 100 kids per year for the past 4 years with over $10,000 in gifts and food to these families in need each year. LOABA is always looking for new ways to give back to our local community which led to us expanding our local charitable contributions by partnering with the Boys & Girls Club in both Putnam and Greene Counties in 2014 and 2015. In December of 2014, LOABA donated $250 to the Putnam County Boys & Girls Club and later supplied the Boys & Girls Clubs with boxes of school supplies in the fall of 2015. Representatives of the Lake Oconee Area Builders Association paid a visit to the Pete Nance Boys & Girls Club of Greene County recently to show support to the club and surprise PNBGC Club Director, Bob Mackey, with a donation of $500. “It is truly touching to witness how blessed we are to have such generous members continually offering assistance to those in need.” said Julie Wade, LOABA Charitable Contributions Chairman. o
