Whether employed by a large construction firm, self-employed, or working for a smaller subcontractor, construction workers may seek certifications or specialty degrees that boost their resumes and hone their skills. Many Georgia schools offer advanced training for the construction professional. To retain and better train our existing workers, the following programs offer options for employment advancement for our rising stars.

Georgia Schools Offer Construction-Related Certifications

Both Kennesaw State University and Southern Polytechnic University offer certificates of less than one year in a construction specialty. These classes may be taken on a part-time basis for those who need to work but want to further their education at the same time. At Kennesaw State, the Construction Project Management Certificate is offered in two-day models, all day Friday and Saturday, and includes courses in Building Techniques and Methods, Construction Graphics, Quantity Surveying, Cost Estimating and Bid Preparation, Scheduling, and Construction Project Management. Bainbridge State College offers one-year certificates in Electrical Construction and Maintenance or Structural Welding for those seeking certification as an electrician or structural welder. These certifications, like those offered by Kennesaw State and Southern Polytechnic, offer part-time school enrollment to those also employed. For those who have a passion for heavy equipment operation and who may already have their CDL, the Heavy Equipment College of Georgia, located in Conyers, offers three, six, or nine week courses in operating wheel loaders, excavators, CDL/Ready-Mix trucks, bull dozers, backhoes, and cranes. These short courses are ideal to use in a company’s off-seasons to train employees in best practices and safety of large equipment operation.
